Who is Aarti Mann?
A director, writer, and actress with nearly 30 credits to her name, Aarti Mann, was born Aarti Majumdar under the zodiac sign of Pisces on 3 March 1978, in Connecticut USA; she holds American nationality, and her ethnicity is of Bengali Brahmin descent, and so first generation of Indian American. Aarti is perhaps known best for her role as Priya Koothrappali in the popular comedy series “The Bing Bang Theory”, starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco.
Early life and education
Aarti was raised by her parents, mother Vasanti Majumdar who is a physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, and her late father who was also a physician, who died while Aarti was in high school. She has two siblings, the eldest is her sister Kruti, and the youngest is their brother Nishad; the family moved a lot across Pennsylvania until they settled in Fox Chapel, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
Aarti attended Shady Side Academy preparatory school, and upon matriculating in 1996, she enrolled at New York University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Film Writing and Directing in 2000.
Roles in movies
Aarti made her acting debut in 2006, portraying Mirabai in “The Memsahib”, followed by her role as Judy in the short movie “The Punching Dummy”, before she was cast to play Henna in “Today’s Special”, acting alongside Dean Winters, Kevin Corrigan and Aasif Mandvi in 2009.
In the following years, she had some support roles in a few short movies, before she starred alongside Amy Rider and Edgar Morais in “The Monogamy Experiment” in 2012, and was then cast to play Doctor DaSilva in “I’ll See You in My Dreams”, a romantic comedy drama starring Sam Elliot, Blythe Danner and Martin Starr, which had eight award nominations.
In 2015, Aarti portrayed Nurse Nikita in “Danny Collins”, acting alongside Al Pacino, Jennifer Garner and Annette Bening, followed by her 2018 roles as Jiah in “Love Sonia”, and as Heather in “Sharon 1.2.3”, which was her most recent movie role.

Aarti’s first appearance on television was in the series “The Future Dead” in 2007, followed by minor roles in series such as “Quarterlife”, “Heroes” and “The Young and the Restless”, before in 2010 being cast to play her most notable role as Priya Koothrappali in “The Big Bang Theory”; the series had 252 award nominations, and won 77, including 10 Primetime Emmys.
After she left the series in the fourth season, in one of her interviews she said: ‘I would love to come back and see where it goes with Leonard and Priya. But no contracts have been signed. I think we’ll know by June or July.’ However, her character moved from the US, and that was the end of her appearance in the series.
In the following years, Aarti made appearances in an episode or two of various series, such as “Futurestates”, “Leverage”, “Suits”, and “Wendell and Vinnie”.
She was seen as Nehir in “NCIS: New Orleans”, and as Holly Harner in “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2017, and then she portrayed Saundra Sigh in “All Rise” in 2021, which was her most recent role on television, but it’s announced that she’s filming for the new Netflix series, which title hasn’t been revealed yet.
Love life and relationships
There are various rumors concerning Aarti’s love life, and one of them was that she was secretly dating her fellow from “The Big Bang Theory”, Johnny Galecki, however, the two haven’t spoken about these assumptions, especially since Aarti was already a married woman when she started the filming for the series.
Aarti and her husband Purvesh Mankad, who works in finance, married on 18 December 2010, and since then Aarti used an abbreviation of her husband’s surname as her stage name; they have a daughter named Nikita, whose birthdate hasn’t been revealed, and son Shantanu, born on 3 January 2021.
As of January 2022, Aarti is married to Purvesh, they have two children, and the family of four live their happy lives in their residence in Los Angeles, California.
Hobbies and other interests
As a writer and director, Aarti has two credits to her name – in 2016 she wrote and directed the short movie “Siempre”, and there’s now her new movie in post-production, entitled “Augury”, which is a horror starring Leela Ladnier and Kavi Ramachandran Ladnier.
One of her favorite hobbies is traveling, and thanks to her acting career, she’s visited several US states and Canada, and with her family, she’s traveled around the world; her favorite destination is Tortola, British Virgin Islands, while she dreams of visiting Kolkata, India, which is her parent’s hometown.
Aarti is enjoying gardening, and she proudly shares her harvest with her followers on Instagram, whose number counts over 10,000; she also shares photos of her everyday life, updates about her work, and some photos of her children.
