Early life, parents, and education

Born Alexis Gilbert Stewart under the zodiac sign of Libra on 27 September 1965, she’s today aged 57 (as of February 2023). Born in Manhattan, New York City USA, she holds American nationality and her ethnicity is of mixed Polish and Scottish descent.

She is the only child of Martha Stewart and her ex-husband Andrew Stewart, about whom little is known. He worked as a publisher, and Marta and he married in 1961 – they separated in 1987, and their divorce was finalized three years later. Some rumors said that the two divorced because Martha was cheating on him, however, neither Martha nor Andrew confirmed these allegations.

Alexis lived with her mother, although they had a strained relationship. When it comes to Alexis’ educational background, she attended Putney School in Vermont, and upon matriculating in 1983, she enrolled at Barnard College, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1987; her mother, Martha, is also a Barnard graduate.

Her television career and her first book

Prior to her TV show, Alexis co-hosted the radio show entitled “Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer” with Jennifer Hutt. In 2008, they began hosting the show, “Whatever, Martha”, in which they made fun of old episodes of “Martha Stewart Living”. Alexis and Jennifer were attempting to cook or create Martha’s projects, so demonstrating to the audience how difficult they are to complete. Martha made an appearance in one episode during the show’s second season in 2009.

In September 2010, the duo debuted on the Hallmark television channel – their show, “Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer”, featured them talking about topics that two women are hearing, reading, and thinking about, ranging from personal relationships to pop culture.

In 2011, their show entitled “Whatever, You’re Wrong!” premiered, which aired for one season.

That same year, Alexis published her book, “Whatever: Learning to Live Here”, in which she detailed how she was affected by her mother’s neuroses for perfection. She wrote that if she hadn’t done something perfectly she had to do it again, adding that she struggled to please her mother. The book was co-written with Jennifer Hutt, and also featured their darkest personal quirks, and some advice about sex, relationships, body issues, and more.

Wedding, baby father, and children

Alexis was married to a lawyer, John Robert Cuti, who was also lead guitarist for the band The Inflatables. They married in 1997 and separated in 2003, however, their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2004, since John served as a trial lawyer during Martha’s case, who was arrested and convicted of felony charges.

In 2010, Alexis announced that she’d hired a gestational surrogate since she struggled to conceive. Her daughter Jude was born on 8 March 2011,, and on 9 March in the following year, she welcomed her son, Truman, who was also born by gestational surrogacy.

Born Martha Helen Kostyra under the zodiac sign of Leo on 3 August 1941, in Jersey City, New Jersey USA, she’s today aged 81. She was raised by her parents alongside her five siblings, Eric, Frank, George, Laura and Kathryn, in Nutley, New Jersey, to where the family moved when Martha was 10 years old.

Aged 15, Martha began working as modeling, and as a babysitter. She attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1959, enrolled at Barnard College to study chemistry, however, she switched to art, history and architectural history. She supplemented her scholarship through modeling gigs, and even worked for popular fashion brands such as Chanel.

While in college, she met her future husband Andrew, and they married, and a year later, Martha graduated with a double major in architectural history and history.

Martha began her career as a stockbroker in 1967, and she and Andrew moved to Westport, Connecticut. In the early ‘70s, she started a catering business – her first cookbook “Entertaining” was released in 1982, although ghostwritten by Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Hawes.

In the following year, Martha published “Martha Stewart’s Quick Cook”, followed by her books “Martha Stewart’s Pies & Tarts”, “Weddings”, and “Martha Stewart’s Christmas”, among many others.

In 1990 was released her new magazine “Martha Stewart Living”, and three years later, began her weekly half-hour TV program based on her magazine, and founded her company called Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), on 27 December 2001, Martha avoided a loss of over $45,000 by selling her shares of ImClone Systems, after receiving non-public information from her broker, Peter Bracanovic.

After a highly publicized trial, Martha was sentenced to serve a five-month term in a federal correction facility; she was released from prison in March 2005. Later that year, she returned to daytime television with two shows, entitled “The Martha Stewart Show” and “The Apprentice: Martha Stewart”, but which both received poor ratings.

Speaking of her personal life, after she divorced her husband, she was in a relationship with the great actor Anthony Hopkins, but this love story ended after she saw his movie “The Silence of the Lambs”, Martha sayingd that she associated Anthony with his character in the movie (Hannibal Lecter). She was in an on-and-off relationship for over 15 years with billionaire Charles Simonyi, but this love story ended in 2008. She’s apparently single as of 2023.

Currently, Martha is hosting “The Martha Stewart Podcast”, which premiered on 22 June 2022.
