Who is her father? Suge Knight Short Wiki/Bio

Marion Hugh ‘Suge’ Knight Jr. was born on 19 April 1965 under the zodiac sign of Aries, in Compton, California USA, the son of Marion Knight Sr. and Maxine (née Dikemen). His name Suge was derived from his childhood nickname Sugar Bear. He went to Lynwood High School in nearby Lynwood, where he was a track star, and also played American Football.

American Football Career

Upon matriculation in 1983, Suge enrolled in El Camino College, where he continued to play American Football for the college’s team. Two years later, he transferred to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and played there for the next two years. After being left undrafted in the 1987 NFL Draft, he was invited to join the Los Angeles Rams training camp, but was cut during camp. He then became a replacement player during the 1987 NFL Players Strike, and played two games with the team.

Career Beginnings

After his time with the NFL, Suge Knight landed a job as a concert promoter and bodyguard for such celebrities as Bobby Brown. He went on to establish his own music publishing company in 1989, and his big break came when Vanilla Ice signed over the royalties for his hit song “Ice Ice Baby”. However, it was followed by a scandal, as Suge and his bodyguards allegedly confronted the rapper several times and dangled him by his ankles off a balcony, so he signed over the song rights. Thereafter, Suge founded an artist management company and signed such hip hop artists as DJ Quik and The D.O.C., meeting many members of the famous gangsta rap group N.W.A. through the latter.

Death Row Records

Suge Knight co-founded Death Row Records in 1991, along with Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. – the label gained enormous popularity for bringing gangster rap to the mainstream in the 1990s, distributing numerous multi-platinum albums by many West Coast-based hip-hop artists. In 1992, the label released Dr. Dre’s debut studio album “The Chronic”, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, and received three-time platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). They then worked on Snoop Dogg’s debut studio album, entitled “Doggystyle” (1993), which debuted atop the Billboard 200, made it to quadruple platinum status, and is considered one of the most significant hip-hop albums ever released.

In 1995, Suge offered to post a $1.4 million bail for Tupac Shakur if he signed with the label; he agreed, and they issued his number-one album “All Eyez On Me”, which achieved instant critical acclaim, and was certified diamond by the RIAA. At the peak of its success, the label was making more than $100 million per year.

Murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.

Suge Knight has been the subject of different theories related to the murders of both Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. In September 1996, Suge and Tupac assaulted Southside Compton Crips gang member Orlando Anderson; later that night, someone shot into the car that Suge was driving, and murdered Tupac.

The Notorious B.I.G. was also murdered in a similar way in March of the following year, and Suge became a prime suspect for the murder. After speculation that Suge Knight was involved in both murders surfaced, his record label started to fall apart, and its most prominent artists – Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg – left it. Moreover, Snoop Dogg even released the single “Tha Doggfather”, in which he openly criticizes Suge for the murder of Tupac Shakur.

End of Death Row Records

Suge Knight had many legal troubles after being accused of using intimidation and violence in his business dealings. Besides that, he had serious financial issues since the IRS announced that he owed $6.5 million in back taxes in 2002. Four years later, he filed for personal bankruptcy, which also forced Death Row Record to file for bankruptcy the same year. In 2009, the label was sold to WIDEawake Entertainment for $18 million – WIDEawake was later sold to Entertainment One, a division of Hasbro until 2021, when it was sold to The Blackstone Group.

Legal Troubles

Suge Knight has had numerous issues with the law. He even spent several years imprisoned for assault convictions, of his probation and parole in the late 1990s and early 2000s. From 2008 and 2009, he was involved in several physical altercations, and three years later, he was arrested after police found marijuana in his car.

In 2014, he was arrested and charged with robbery alongside comedian Katt Williams; the robbery was related to the theft of a camera from a paparazzi photographer; both pleaded not guilty. In 2017, Suge Knight was charged with threatening death of F. Gary Gray, who directed the 2015 film “Straight Outta Compton”. The following year, he was sentenced to 28 years in prison for crashing his car into two men and killing one of them, back in 2015. He is incarcerated at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California; he’s scheduled to be eligible for parole in 2034.
