Brenda Warner’s Life Story

After high school, she realized that her parents were struggling financially, and instead of furthering her studies, Brenda joined the Marine Corps, and was posted to Japan. During her service, she met her first husband, Neil, and in 1989 gave birth to their first child, Zachary.

Unfortunately, Neil accidentally dropped the baby on the head while bathing him when Zachary was just four months old. This caused permanent damage on Zachary’s left portion of the brain, which left him blind.

Brenda left the Marine Corps to care for her child, and the two welcomed their second child, a daughter named Jesse, in 1992. However, by that time, Neil and Brenda were no longer together, as she discovered that Neil was unfaithful to her when she was eight months pregnant. She left him and started living with her parents.

She enrolled into nursing school and soon after found a job as a registered nurse in long-term care. She served there for two years, before she joined an obstetrics-gynecology practice.

She later met Kurt Warner while he was still a student. They met in a bar when her mother took her there to relax a bit. She struck up a friendship with the rising football star – Brenda told him her entire situation that she was a single mother of two children. She thought that this would scare him off, but Kurt appeared the next day at her place with a rose, and met her children.

With Kurt by her side, Brenda and Kurt started the philanthropic organization First Things First, and co-authored the book “First Things First – The Rules for Being a Warner” in 2009, which became a New York Times Best Seller.

After high school, Kurt enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in communications. He didn’t see much playing time in his first few years of college, as he was only the third choice for the university football team. Nevertheless, in his senior year, Kurt was named a starter and played in 12 games in which he scored 17 touchdowns, and was named the Gateway Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference.

Once he obtained his degree, Kurt declared for the 1994 NFL Draft – he was undrafted but was recruited by the Green Bay Packers, although he was released by the Packers training camp before the regular season began.

How Brenda Helped Kurt’s Career?

He found a job stocking shelves at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Cedar Falls, still hoping for a chance in NFL. After nothing happened, he joined Northern Iowa University as a graduate assistant coach, then in 1995 he signed with the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League,, leading them to the Arena Bowl appearances in two seasons. They were living in Brenda’s house, precisely in the basement, building their own careers and financial independence.

This earned him a futures contract with the St. Louis Rams, and he eventually joined them full-time after playing in Europe for the Amsterdam Admirals. In 1998 he played in only one game, but 1999 was his breakthrough year. He played in all 16 games as a starter and threw 4,353 yards for 41 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. This earned him the 1999 NFL MVP, leading the Rams to their first playoff since 1989.

He reached theSuper Bowl again with the Rams in 2001, when they lost to the New England Patriots, and with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008, in which they lost against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He now serves as the quarterbacks’ coach at Brophy College Preparatory since 2019. According to sources, Kurt Warner’s net worth is over $30 million, as of early 2023.
