Griffin Santopietro Wiki: Age, Childhood, and Education

Griffin Santopietro was born on 5 January 2005 in Portland, Maine, USA, the son of Kathy and John Santopietro. He has an older brother Max, who is also involved in the show business, but has pursued a career in music instead of acting.

He spent the first 10 years of his life in Connecticut before the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. There he became interested in acting, and began appearing in school plays. He eventually participated in the nationwide talent search based in Orlando, Florida – “Talent Inc” – and won the Best Overall Child Actor Award. After this, he began pursuing a professional career in acting while still in the local Charlotte Preparatory School, and is currently attending high school, and studying acting at Stella Adler Studio.

Career Beginnings

Griffin made his debut at just 11 years old when he appeared in the true-crime documentary series “Homicide Hunter”. The series starred Joe Kenda, once an extremely successful Homicide Detective for the Colorado Springs, CO Police Dept, now retired, as he explores his old cases through reenactment, giving insight into his thought process along the way. The series received high praise for its originality, and the effort to bring the work of a police detective closer to the public.

Rise to Stardom

After his debut, Griffin waited for the next on-screen appearance for two years, however, the wait paid off, as he was chosen for the part of Anthony LaRusso in the TV martial arts comedy-drama series “Cobra Kai”, the sequel to the original “The Karate Kid” films by Robert Mark Karmen. The series premiered on YouTube Red/YouTube Premium, and aired for two seasons before it moved to Netflix onwards with the third season.

Both film stars, Ralph Macchio and William Zabka return to portray now aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. While Lawrence is a deadbeat alcoholic, LaRusso is a successful businessman with a wife and two sons – one, Anthony, portrayed by Griffin. Spoiled, demanding, and playing video games, Anthony is not a karate fan and doesn’t want to learn martial arts from his father. He gets in all kinds of trouble in school, starting a rivalry with the opposing Cobra Kai gang. The sixth season of the popular series has been announced, and Griffin is hoping that his character will be seen more and be a bigger part of the final season. So far, he’s appeared in 26 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated series, which has only increased his popularity, although he is yet to win an award for his work on the show; the role has launched Griffin to prominence.

In addition to his long-term project with “Cobra Kai”, Griffin has made several other appearances through the years.

2018 was his breakthrough year – he portrayed Jeddy in the comedy film “The Week Of” (2018), about two fathers who have to spend a week together for the wedding of their children, starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Steve Buscemi, and written by Sandler and Robert Smigel, who also directed the film.

The same year, Griffin portrayed Tommy in the coming-of-age story about military brats who find a treasure map, but have to embark on a rescue mission to save one dad from kidnappers, naming their close-neat rescue group “The Rack Pack”. The film starred C. Thomas Howell, Nico Ford and Hunter Lee Manning, while it was directed by Thomas J. Churchill.
