Who is Malina Weissman?

Malina Opal Weissman was born in New York City, USA, on 12 March 2003 – her zodiac sign is Pisces, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress and a model, with six acting credits to her name to date, while she’s perhaps known best for her portrayal of one of the main characters, Violet Baudelaire, in the adventure comedy series “A Series of Unfortunate Events”. It also starred Neil Patrick Harris and Patrick Warburton, and follows three Baudelaire children whose parents have just died in a strange fire; the series aired from 2017 to 2019, and won 19 of the 60 awards for which it was nominated, including six Primetime Emmy nominations.

Early life, parents and education

Malina was raised alongside her sister Ayla in New York City, by their parents about whom nothing’s known, as the girls respect their privacy, but apparently Malina’s father is a theatre actor, and that he’s motivated her to pursue a career as an actress.

She became interested in acting at a very early age, as she and her sister spent the majority of their spare time watching TV; she was also into modelling, and signed her first contract at the age of eight. Malina became a member of her elementary school’s drama club as soon as she enrolled, and she was just 11 years old when her career in the film industry was launched, with her portrayal of Young April O’Neil in the critically acclaimed 2014 action adventure comedy movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

It was directed by Jonathan Liebesman, starred Megan Fox, Will Arnett and William Fichtner, and follows a team of mutated turtles who are fighting to protect their home from being destroyed; the movie won one of the 12 awards for which it was nominated.

Malina enrolled at high school in 2017, and became interested in numerous activities during her four years there: she practiced dancing, creative writing, and also played volleyball. She has matriculated just recently, in mid-2021, and it doesn’t appear that she’s planning to pursue a college degree.

Roles in movies

In 2016, we saw Malina play Girl in Pink, in the biographical musical drama “Thirsty”, written and directed by Margo Pelletier, and which starred Scott Townsend, Deirdre Lovejoy and Cole Canzano. It follows Scott Townsend who was bullied while growing up, and has now become one of the most popular drag queens, Thirsty Burlington; the movie won three of the four awards for which it was nominated.

Malina’s only other film role has been her portrayal of Rebecca Brand, in the 2016 family comedy “Nine Lives”, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and which starred Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner and Robbie Amell. It follows a businessman who has somehow transferred his consciousness into his cat’s body.

Roles in TV series

In 2015 and 2016, Malina was cast to play Renee Epstein, in the episodes “The Courage of a Soldier” and “Blade Stallion” of the comedy “Difficult People”. It was created by Julie Klausner, who also starred in it alongside Billy Eichner and James Urbaniak – the series follows the comedians Julie and Billy, who are living in New York City, and are trying to manage their careers and love lives; it aired from 2015 to 2017, and was nominated for two awards.

Malina’s only other TV series role has been her portrayal of Young Kara Zor-El, from 2015 to 2017 in the hit action adventure drama “Supergirl”, created by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, and which stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood.

It’s been airing since 2015, and follows superman’s cousin who’s working on her own ‘career’ as a superhero; the series has won 13 of the 62 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Malina sang the song “Happy Birthday to You” in the 2018 episode “The Vile Village: Part Two” of the series “A Series of Unfortunate Events”.

She has made a guest appearance in a number of talk-shows, including “Home & Family”, “Entertainment Tonight” and “Red Carpet Report”.

In 2019, Malina and her colleagues Louis Hynes and Presley Smith were nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Ensemble Performance in a Streaming Series or Film, for “A Series of Unfortunate Events”.

Love life and relationships

Marina’s more or less open when it comes to her love life, and has featured her boyfriend in many of her Instagram pictures, however, she hasn’t revealed any details regarding him, except that the two met at high school, and that they were born on the same day. Malina and the mysterious boy have been seen spending time together on a number of occasions, and seem to love walking hand-in-hand. The two have been in a relationship for more than two years now, and Malina has still managed to keep the details concerning him away from the media’s attention.

She hasn’t spoken of her sexual orientation, but many of her fans believe that she’s bisexual, and that she was previously in a relationship with a girl, however, no evidence has been provided to support these claims, nor has Malina commented on this.

Malina likes to spend her spare time in nature, and her Instagram account is filled with pictures taken in various natural locations; she’s quite active on the network, as she seems to be enjoying the attention she’s receiving from her close to a million followers.

Malina’s a huge lover of animals, with rabbits being her favorites; her pet rabbit can be seen featured in a couple of her Instagram pictures.

Summer’s her favorite season, as she loves to sun tan at the beach and swim in the ocean.

Malina has her own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Angelina Jolie, and she’s hoping that she’ll eventually be given an opportunity to act alongside them.
