Who is Rose McIver?

Frances Rose McIver was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 10 October 1988 – her zodiac sign is Libra, and she holds New Zealand nationality. She’s an actress who has been credited with appearing in more than 50 movies and TV series, while she’s perhaps still known best for her portrayal of Lindsey Salmon in the 2009 fantasy thriller movie “The Lovely Bones”. Early life and education

Rose was raised in Titirangi, Auckland alongside her brother Paul McIver, by their mother Ann ‘Annie’ (nee Coney) who was an artist, and their father John George Whitfield ‘Mac’ McIver who was a photographer. Rose’s brother is also an actor, probably known best for his starring role in the 1993 movie “The Tommyknockers”.

Rose was somewhat thrown into the film industry, as her parents started taking her to auditions when she was three years old; she made her debut TV series appearance in 1992, aged four, when she played Holly in the drama “Shortland Street”. The following year saw her make her debut film appearance, with her portrayal of Angel in the hit romantic musical drama “The Piano”, written and directed by Jane Campion, and which starred Harvey Keitel, Holly Hunter and Sam Neill.

It follows a mute woman who has arrived in New Zealand with her daughter because of her arranged marriage; the movie won 67 awards, including three Oscars – Holly Hunter for Best Actress – while it was nominated for 56 other awards.

Rose thus fell in love with acting, and continued with her career throughout her entire education. She studied at Avondale College in Auckland, and upon matriculating in 2006. enrolled at University of Auckland to study psychology and linguistics, but dropped out to focus on her acting career.

In 1994, Rose was cast to play Ilea in three action adventure fantasy films: “Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur”, “Hercules in the Underworld” and “Hercules and the Amazon Women”.

She gained wide recognition in 2003, when she was cast to play Hannah in the family sports comedy “Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off”, directed by Paul Hoen, and which starred Taylor Ball, Orlando Brown and Reiley McClendon. Rose is also known for her starring role in the 2017 romantic family comedy “A Christmas Prince”, directed by Alex Zamm, and in which she starred alongside Ben Lamb and Alice Krige. It follows a reporter who’s pretending to be a tutor, so that she could learn more about a playboy prince, but then falls in love with him.

Three of Rose’s most recent roles have been in the biographical musical drama “Daffodils” and the  romantic family drama “A Christmas Prince” both in 2019, and the 2020 family comedy drama “The Princess Switch: Switched Again”.

Roles in TV series

Rose gained recognition in 2006, when cast to star as Garland in the fantasy adventure “Maddigan’s Quest”; it also starred Jordan Metcalfe and Zac Fox, and follows several people from Fantasia who have met two boys from the future, and who are telling them that the future of Fantasia is in their hands. The series won three awards.

A couple of Rose’s other notable performances in the 2000s were in the comedy drama “Rude Awakenings”, the critically acclaimed action adventure drama “Legend of the Seeker” and the action adventure comedy “Power Rangers R. P. M.”

In 2011, she played the lead character Candice in the comedy “Super City”, created by Madeleine Sami and Thomas Sainsbury, and which also starred Vanessa Riddell and Renee Lyons. The series follows several people living in Auckland, and it won one of the three awards for which it was nominated. The following years saw Rose make a guest appearance in an episode of a couple of series, such as the mystery crime drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, the comedy “Cassandra French’s Finishing School for Boys” and the romantic mystery drama “V. Between 2015 and 2019, she starred as Olivia Moore in the hit crime comedy drama “iZombie”, created by Diane Ruggiero-Wright and Rob Thomas, and which also starred Malcolm Goodwin and Rahul Kohli. The series follows a zombie girl who’s using her ‘zombie skills’ to help the police – it won seven of the 28 awards for which it was nominated.

Three of Rose’s most recent roles in TV series have been in 2021, in six episodes of the comedy “Unwanted”, nine episodes of the fantasy comedy “Ghosts”, and 13 episodes of the comedy “Woke”.

Other credits

Rose worked as an associate producer on the 2014 horror thriller film “Blood Punch”, for which she also received special thanks.

Between 2005 and 2017, Rose was in a relationship with Benjamin Hoeksema, a New Zealand architect who gained recognition only after he started dating Rose. It’s believed by many of Rose’s fans that she and Benjamin broke up in 2017 because she had fallen in love with George Byrne, an artist who’s followed by close to 200,000 people on Instagram, and whom she apparently started dating within a month after she and Benjamin split. Rose and George have uploaded numerous pictures which feature them together onto their Instagram accounts, and it’s said that the two have recently become engaged, however, neither has confirmed this.
