Career Beginnings and Immediate Success

Interested in acting from an early age, Tempesst, made her debut as Vanessa Huxtable in 1984 at just 11 years old. Her character is the fourth child of Cliff and Clair Huxtable, and she starred in 157 episodes of the long-running sitcom “The Cosby Show” (1984-1992).

While on the show, Tempestt turned into a star, and took home a few awards, including the Young Artist Award in the category for Best Young Actor/Actress Ensemble in a Television Comedy, Drama Series or Special.

She guest-starred as Vanessa Huxtable in the TV series “A Different World” in 1989, and  in the 1990 TV special “The Earth Day Special”.

After the end of her stint in “The Cosby Show”, Tempestt took a break from the entertainment world, but returned in the mid-‘90s, first as a talk show host, and then as an actress.

In 1998 she was Roberta Baylor in the TV series “The Practice”, while she ended the decade with the role of Maria Dangola in the television movie “Santa and Pete”.

She commenced the new millineum with the part of Tanika in the television movie “The Expendables”, starring Brett Cullen, Robin Givens and Idalis DeLeon, while in 2001 she appeared in the television romantic comedy-drama movie “Fire & Ice”, starring Lark Voorhies, Kadeem Hardison and Glynn Turman.

She enjoyed steady work until mid- 2010s, during which time, she featured in such projects as the romantic comedy film “Bachelor Man” (2003), with David DeLuise, Mark Parra and Missi Pyle, in the lead roles, then as Cecily in the award-winning TV romantic-drama series “South of Nowhere” in 2006, while from 2008 to 2009, she voiced several characters in the animated series “The Replacements”.

Next, she appeared in the television drama movie “The Wishing Well” (2009), with Jordan Ladd, Jason London and Ernest Borgnine as the main stars, while in 2010, she co-starred in the thriller crime-drama film “N-Secure”, alongside Cordell Moore, Essence Atkins, and Denise Boutte.

In 2012 she voiced Sheriff Hooper in the animated film “ParaNorman”, which earned her a Black Reel Award nomination in the category for Best Voice Performance. The same year, she was chosen for the role of Marny in the TV comedy series “Guys with Kids”, and co-starred in all 18 episodes of the popular series with Anthon Anderson, Jesse Bradford and Zach Cregger.

Career Decline

From 2013, Tempestt’s career started declining somewhat, and she didn’t appear in many on-screen roles.

She reprised the part of Vanessa in the TV series “Instant Mom” (2014), and then four years later, Tempestt featured in the television movie “Jingle Belle”, portraying Jackie, while her latest on-screen appearance was as Katrina in the Netflix produced TV series “Family Reunion” (2019).

Additional to her acting career, Tempestt is also a prominent TV host. She launched herself to the world of variety talk shows in the mid-‘90s, by hosting her own “The Tempestt Bledsoe Show” (1995-1996), produced by Columbia TriStar Television and Dick Clark.

From 2010 to 2011 she was a co-hostess of the show “Clean House”, as she replaced Niecy Nash who left the show.

Moreover, she made guest appearances in such shows as “The Talk” in 2012, and in “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in 2013, while most recently, she featured in the documentary “Bill Cosby Walking Free” (2022).

Additionally, Darryl is known for the role of Morris Clay in the TV series “Homeboys in Outer Space” (1996-1997). The two met in 1989 when she made an appearance in “A Different World”, and they started dating in 1993.

Although the two aren’t married, they have been together ever since, and haven’t talked about any plans for the future. According to sources, they don’t have children.
