Who was Ariel Camacho?

Jose Ariel Camacho Barraza was born in Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico, on 8 July 1992 – his zodiac sign was Cancer, and he held Mexican nationality. He was a singer-songwriter who sang songs in the Regional Mexican genre, and was mostly popular for having been the frontman of the band Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes del Rancho.

How did he die?

Ariel performed at the music festival Carnaval de Mocorito in Angostura, Sinaloa, and on 25 February 2015 he was returning from it, travelling with four other people in a 2004 Honda Accord car.

Ariel was driving, and at one point lost control; it was two o’clock in the morning when he crashed the car, and died instantly. Two other people in the car died, while the other two were injured.

Because of the condition in which Ariel’s body was found, the police weren’t able to find out if he were intoxicated, but it was reported that he was driving very fast; Ariel was only 22 years old when he died.

Early life and education

Ariel was raised in Guamuchil alongside his sister Kenia Camacho, by their parents Reynalda Barza and Benito Camacho; not a lot is known about his parents, as Ariel respected their privacy, and kept them away from media.

He had become interested in singing at a very early age, and was 12 when he performed for the first time, in Angostura. He met the guitarist and vocalist César Iván Sánchez while attending a local middle school, and the two would later start performing together. Ariel became interested in various other activities upon enrolling at a local high school, as he played soccer, acted with the school’s drama club, and was also into modelling.

Upon matriculating in 2010, he chose not to pursue a college degree, but to focus on his career as a musician.

Career as a musician

Ariel and César began performing together upon matriculating, and Ariel then met the tuba player Omar Burgos, and invited him to join them.

The trio performed for the first time in Tijuana, in front of close to 50,000 people, and Ariel was then nicknamed ‘Rey del Requinto’, because he was great at playing the guitar with 12 strings, an instrument known as the requinto.

It was in 2013 that Ariel formed their band Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes del Rancho, and in the following year, they signed a contract with DEL Records. They released their debut Album “El Karma” on 23 September 2014, which topped the Regional Mexican Airplay Chart, and peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart; it was eventually certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

They continued performing without Ariel after his death, and their second album “Hablemos” was released on 6 November 2015, and once again topped the Regional Mexican Airplay Chart, and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart. In 2016, the band left DEL Records after they got into a fight with the owner.

On 4 March 2016, their third album was released, entitled “Recuerden Mi Estilo”, topping both charts. On 24 February 2017, the boys released their fourth album “Ariel Camacho Para Siempre”, placing #1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay Chart, and #6 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart.

On 14 April 2017, their album “La Suerte” came out, and most recently, on 19 April 2019, the boys released their sixth album “En Vivo con Banda Sinaloense La Tuyia de Culiacán, Sinaloa”.

Ariel was highly active on Instagram, and his account still remains open today, over six years after his death. It’s followed by more than 850,000 people, and there are over 1,000 pictures uploaded onto it.

His fans launched him a Twitter account in January 2016, and it’s today followed by over 3,000 people, and numbers over 200 tweets, most paying respect to Ariel.

There’s also a Facebook page of the band Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes del Rancho, which is followed by more than 3.2 million people; its most recent update was on 26 February 2021.

Love life and relationships

Ariel was highly secretive when it came to talking about his love life, and didn’t mention any men or women whom he had perhaps been with.
