Who is Guaynaa?
Jean Carlos Santiago Pérez, known artistically as Guaynaa, was born on 16th September 1992, in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The Virgo musician, who has had several chart-topping hits, is 5ft 8ins (1.72m) tall, and weighs about 150lbs (68kgs).
Musical Beginnings
Before pursuing a music career, Guaynaa aspired to become a petro-chemical engineer, and also worked as a ‘phone salesman. However, life had other plans for him, and he released his first two singles in 2018. “Pirateando” failed to make waves in the charts, but “Rebota” was a commercial success, peaking at #33 on the US Latin Airplay charts, and going platinum four times.
In 2019, Guaynaa released various singles such as “La Stripper”, “Bugalú”, and “Chicharrón”. The majority of his works didn’t mirror “Rebota”’s success, but the rapper teamed up with Nicky Jam and other Latin artists for the remix of the single, which peaked at #28 on the US Latin charts and #24 on the Spanish charts.
From his debut album, entitled “BRB Be Right Back”, Guaynaa released the singles “Full Moon”, “Rompe Rodillas”, and “Mera”. Popular Latin artists with decades of experience in the industry such as Yandel joined forces with the rookie rapper, ensuring him millions of views on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
2020
In 2020, Guaynaa took a new approach in his career, focusing on collaborating with artists such as Mariah Angeliq and Farruko, instead of putting out solo singles.
“Se Te Nota”, a collaboration with Venezuelan-American artist Lele Pons, was certified platinum three times by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and peaked at #18 on the Argentinian charts, being seen millions of times on YouTube. Spotify and other platforms heavily promoted the single, which placed it on diverse playlists.
However, in 2020 Guaynaa’s breakthrough single was “Chica Ideal”, in which he collaborated with pop singer Sebastian Yatra.
The romantic single was certified platinum two times by the RIAA, and reached #1 on the US Latin Airplay and US Latin Rhythm charts. Coincidentally, the single was Guaynaa’s last project of the year.
In 2021, Guaynaa has released five singles with other artists: “Monterrey” with Pain Digital, “Demente” with Chungha, “Calle” with Lola Indigo and Cauty, “Cumbia a la gente” with Los Ángeles Azules, and “Nos Volvimos Locos” with Gloria Trevi.
The most popular single so far has been “Nos Volvimos Locos”, which reached #9 and #12 on the Puerto Rican and Mexican charts respectively. Apart from Lola Indigo, almost all of Guaynaa’s associated acts this year have been less popular artists.
Guaynaa’s Personal Life
Not much is known about Guaynaa’s personal life before fame, but he is currently dating Lele Pons, who has almost 50 million followers on Instagram, which has also benefited his career and helped him cross over artistically.
Lele was born in June 1996; her father, Luis Guillermo Pons Mendoza, worked as an architect, and her mother, Ana Maronese Pivetta, is a pediatrician. At just five years old, Lele and her family relocated to Miami, Florida, USA. She studied at Miami Country Day School, then moved to Los Angeles, California, shortly afterwards. In high school, Lele encountered difficulties making friends and also suffered bullying.
Being diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder wasn’t an impediment for Lele, as she worked to accomplish her personal goals. She became popular on Vine, the first user on the platform to reach a million views; from then on, she used her social media success as the foundations for her music career.
In 2015, the blonde beauty released her jewelry collection, UNO Magnetic. The following year she published “Surviving High School” with Melissa de la Cruz, and also starred in a YouTube romcom which was produced by AwesomenessTV.
Other highlights in Lele’s career include hosting the Mexican version of singing show “La Voz” in 2018, and presenting the 19th Annual Latin Grammy Awards with Spanish artist Aitana, who shot to fame on the talent show “Operación Triunfo”. To date, the biggest artists whom Lele has collaborated with have been the Black Eyed Peas and American rapper Saweetie. She has also starred in several indie shorts such as “Latino Hunger Games” and “Insane Kids”.
Some of the artists’ most popular singles are her 2018 solo release “Celoso” and her collaboration with Guaynaa, “Se Te Nota”. The exact date when the artists began dating is unknown, but if you look on their Instagram profiles, both musicians post cute snaps regularly and dedicate each other sweet captions.
From amusing TikTok videos to TV appearances, the pair have done almost everything together.
At first, some cynics claimed that the public relationship between Lele and Guaynaa was to promote their joint single, but with time they proved the denigrators wrong.
Lele’s popularity is also due to her openness: she readily admitted to getting a nose job in 2013, and has also endeared fans by sharing her previous struggles. The singer has also proudly documented the fitness journey she embarked on with Guaynaa, uploading photos in June 2021 of the rapper’s before and after with the caption “Couple transformation”.
Guaynaa’s Net Worth
Guaynaa’s main source of income comes from streaming revenue on YouTube, Apple Music, and other platforms. From time to time, the rapper also promotes products and services on his Instagram profile, which has almost six million followers.
Reportedly, accounts with over a million followers can earn up to six figures per post depending on their engagement rate. Guaynaa also sells merchandise and performs regularly, which is why his net worth is estimated at around $3 million in late 2021, after just a few years in the music industry.
