Bree Purganan’s Son, Jalen Green Biography

Jalen Romande Green was born on 9 February 2002 in Merced, California USA. He spent his childhood in Livingston, California USA, and then when he was in third grade he had to make another move as this time the family moved to Fresno, California. He started playing basketball in his early years, and by the time he entered sixth grade, he was already a member of the Amateur Athletic Union basketball and practicing every day, spending over five hours a day on the court.

He played high school basketball for San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, in his first year averaging 18.1 points and nine rebounds. With his team, he reached CIF Central Section Division II second place and the quarterfinals. For his eponymous stats, Green earned MaxPreps Freshman All-American second team and CIF Central Section rookie of the year honors. The following year, Jalen improved his stats, averaging 27.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

He led the team to the CIF Open Division play-offs and received MaxPreps National Sophmore of the Year honors. He continued to improve, and in his third and final year at School, he broke the record for most points scored of 2,288 set by Roscoe Pondexter in 1971, and was named USA Today All-USA California player of the year, among several other awards.

He then transferred to Prolific Prep in Napa, California, and was one of the most prominent players on the court, sharing Grind Session’s most valuable player honors with Daishen Nix, averaging a career-high 31.5 points alongside 7.5 rebounds, which earned him Sports Illustrated All-American player of the year.

He didn’t enroll at any college, and instead signed a contract with NBA G League’s Ignite, which is a developmental team. He averaged 17.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, and then declared for the 2021 NBA Draft.

He was selected the second overall pick by the Houston Rockets. He played for the Rockets during the summer league and preseason games, while his official NBA debut came against the Minnesota Timberwolves on 20 October.

He recorded nine points, four rebounds, and four assists, which unfortunately wasn’t enough, as his team lost 124-106. However, he played extremely well for the team and just four days later scored 30 points against the Boston Celtics, and in doing so became the first rookie to put up at least 30 points and eight three-pointers in a game in franchise history.

So far, he’s played in 19 games averaging just over 30 minutes on the floor, scoring just over 14 points alongside 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
