Who was his mother Jenni Rivera?

Dolores Janney ‘Jenni’ Rivera Saavedra was born in Long Beach, California USA, on 2 July 1969 – her zodiac sign was Cancer, and she held American nationality. She was probably known best for her career as a musician, especially for singing regional Mexican songs.

She was raised in Long Beach alongside her four brothers and a sister, by their father Pedro Rivera, and their mother Rosa Saavedra. It was her parents who introduced her to Mexican music, and Jenni fell in love with the genres ranchera, nortena and banda.

She was amongst the top students at her high school, however, she became pregnant at the age of 15, and then began working at a flea market selling CDs to support herself and her baby. Jenni still continued to study, and matriculated as valedictorian (best of her class) in 1987; she then enrolled at California State University, Long Beach, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1991.

She signed her first contract in 1992 with Capitol/Emi, and in 1995 her debut album was released, entitled “Chacalosa”. At the beginning of her career, Jenni was often told that she wouldn’t make it in regional Mexican music, because the genre was dominated by men.

In 1999, she signed a contract with Fonovisa Records, and with them released her new album “Que Me Entierren Con la Banda”, and it was the album’s single “Las Malandrinas” that made her popular. She released two albums in 2001, entitled “Dejate Amar” and “Se las Voy a Dar a Otro”, while a couple of her following albums were “Parrandera, Rebelde y Atrevida” in 2005, “Mid Vida Loca” in 2007, and “Jenni” in 2008. Her two final albums before her death were “Joyas Prestadas: Pop” and “Joyas Prestadas: Banda”, both released in 2011.

Jenni died with six other passengers on 9 December 2012, when her Learjet 25 plane crashed. On 2 July 2013, her family published the book “Unbreakable: My Story, My Way”, which follows Jenni’s life.

Jenni had no luck in love. Her first husband Jose Trinidad Marin was abusive towards her, and after she divorced him, it was revealed that he had sexually abused her sister Rosie, as well as their daughter Janney; Jose spent nine years eluding the police until caught in April 2006 and sentenced to spend over 30 years behind bars. Jenni’s second husband Juan Lopez was sent to jail for selling drugs in 2007, and he died behind bars in 2009, from pneumonia.
