Early life and education
Ming was raised in New York alongside her sister Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty (Nicki Minaj) and brothers Micaiah and Jelani, by their Afro-Trinidadian mother Carol Maraj, who was a gospel singer, and their Indo-Trinidadian father Robert Maraj, who was a financial executive and gospel singer. Their father was addicted to crack cocaine and alcohol, and was violent towards his wife and their children; in December 1987, he burned the family’s house down.

Ming hasn’t shared a lot about her life, as she prefers to stay away from the media’s attention. She’s today attending a local high school, and seems to be most interested in rapping, wanting to follow in her sister’s footsteps; Ming’s also into modelling, and is also planning to pursue a modelling career.
Love life and relationships
Ming hasn’t spoken of any boys or girls whom she has perhaps been with, but there are rumors circulating the internet concerning her current relationship status, and her sexual orientation.
Some of her fans believe Ming to be lesbian, and that she’s today in a relationship with her girlfriend; the two apparently met at high school, and have been spotted together by a couple of people, however, this hasn’t been confirmed by Ming, nor has any evidence been provided to support these claims.
There are also those who believe that Ming’s today in a relationship with a man who is eight years older than her, as they’ve apparently been spotted together, but this hasn’t been confirmed either.

Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty was born in Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on 8 December 1982 – her zodiac sign is Sagittarius, and she holds American nationality, as her family moved to the USA not long after she was born. She’s probably known best for her career as a rapper, which has won her numerous awards, and has established her as one of the best female rappers in the world.
Nicki and her brother Jelani were initially raised by their grandmother in Saint James, where they lived with 11 cousins. Their mother was at that time working in Saint James, while often changing jobs; she was 24 years old when she received her Green Card, and thus moved to New York City, while leaving Jelani and Nicki with their grandmother.
When Nicki was five, her mother bought a house in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City, and then moved Jelani and Nicky to live with her and their father. Nicky studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and upon matriculating in 2001, she appeared in the Off-Broadway play “In Case You Forget”, wanting to become an actress.
Nicki then worked various jobs, mostly as a waitress, and was fired over 15 times because of her attitude to customers.

On 18 April 2009, she released her third mixtape – “Beam Me Up Scotty”; one of its songs “I Get Crazy” peaked at #20 on the US Billboard Hot Rap Songs Chart. She was then ‘discovered’ by the famous American rapper Lil Wayne, who helped her sign a contract with Young Money Entertainment.
Her debut album, “Pink Friday” was released on 19 November 2010, peaking at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, having sold close to 400,000 copies in only a week, and in a month, the album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her second album “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” was released on 2 April 2012, and topped the Billboard 200 Chart, being certified platinum two months later.
Nicki began working on her acting career around the same time, and voiced Steffie in the 2012 animated adventure comedy movie “Ice Age: Continental Drift”.
She released her next album “The Pinkprint” on 15 December 2014, and it peaked at #2 on the US Billboard 200 Chart, then on 10 August 2018, she released her fourth album – “Queen”.
Most recently, on 14 September 2021, Nicki revealed that she’s no longer managed by Irving Azoff, but rather by SALXCO, a company which is also managing the rapper and singer-songwriter Doja Cat, and the singer-songwriter The Weeknd.
From 2003 to 2014, Nicki was in a relationship with the American rapper and businessman Safaree Lloyd Samuels, who had proposed to her, to which Nicki said ‘no’. In 2015, she started dating the American rapper Meek Mill, but they split in January 2017. For a couple of months in 2018, Nicki dated the American rapper Nas, but on 21 October 2019, Nicki married her childhood friend Kenneth ‘Zoo’ Petty, and on 30 September 2020 gave birth to their son.
