He had an older sister, Sherry Joanne Harrison, who died when she was just six years old, an older brother Joseph Kent Harrison, and a younger brother Chris Harrison.

When he was two years old, the family moved to San Diego, California, as his father was transferred there. Growing up, Rick had health problems that confined him to bed for over eight months. During this time he started reading and in no time fell in love with books – “The Great Brain” by John D. Fitzgerald became his favorite.

He went to Taft Middle School, however, he dropped out of school in tenth grade, and the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in the early ‘80s when the real estate business they operated fell apart.

Rick started the Gold & Silver Coin Shop with his father in 1981, on Las Vegas Boulevard South.

The business slowly grew, and in 1989 the Harrison family received their pawn license, which enabled them to start the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, located less than two miles from the Las Vegas Strip.

Gradually, their pawn shop became more successful and they were even able to loan out around $3 million a year, which provided them with over $700,000 in interest income.

They became focused on sports memorabilia that had unique histories, such as a 2001 New England Patriots Super Bowl ring that was given to Brock Williams, a prominent American Football cornerback.
