Who is Paul Butcher?

Paul Matthew Hawke Butcher Jr. was born in Los Angeles, California USA, on 14 February 1994 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor and a musician, with over 50 acting credits to his name, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of one of the main characters, Dustin Brooks, in the family comedy series “Zoey 101”. Created by Dan Schneider, It also starred Jamie Lynn Spears and Christopher Massey, and follows the brother and sister Zoey and Dustin Brooks, who have just enrolled at the private boarding school Pacific Coast Academy; it aired from 2005 to 2008, and won nine of the 29 awards for which it was nominated, including a Primetime Emmy nomination.

Early life and education

Paul was raised alongside his brother Mark in Los Angeles, by their parents Paul Sr. and Jacqueline Butcher; his father is a former American Football player, who competed in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons, spending his time playing for the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams.

Paul became interested in acting at a very early age, and was seven years old when he made his debut TV series appearance, with his portrayal of Sneezing Boy, in the episode “Now You Got It” of the family comedy “The Bernie Mac Show”; the following years saw him make a guest appearance in an episode of many series, such as the comedy “Three Sisters”, the action adventure drama “Power Rangers Wild Force”, and the comedy drama “Six Feet Under”.

Paul continued acting throughout his entire education, and was also very sporting during his four years of high school, as he played both soccer and football.

Upon matriculating in 2012, he didn’t enroll at college, but rather focused on his acting career.

Roles in movies

Paul made his debut film appearance with his portrayal of Young Michael, in the 2002 sports drama “Landspeed”, while a couple of his following roles were in the action comedy drama “The Santa Trap” also in 2002, the 2003 action crime comedy “Hollywood Homicide”, and the 2005 mystery horror thriller “Reeker”.

He gained recognition in 2006, when he lent his voice to several characters in the animated adventure comedy “Ice Age: The Meltdown”, directed by Carlos Saldanha, and which starred Ray Romano, John Leguizamo and Denis Leary. It follows the mammoth Manny and his friends Diego and Sid, who have learned that the ice age is ending, and are thus travelling with other animals to higher ground; the film won eight of the 24 awards for which it was nominated.

Paul then continued voice acting, and also in 2006 lent his voice to characters in the animated movies “Over the Hedge”, “Barnyard” and “Holly Hobbie and Friends: Christmas Wishes”.

In 2007, we saw him play Young Walter and Young Fingerling, in the critically acclaimed mystery crime thriller “The Number 23”, which is one of the rare non-comedy movies in which Jim Carrey has starred. It follows Walter Sparrow, who has become obsessed with the number 23; the film was nominated for five awards. A couple of Paul’s following notable performances were in the 2007 animated adventure comedy “Meet the Robinsons” (voice role), the 2010 short comedy drama “The Legacy”, and the 2014 family drama “A Lesson in Romance”.

Two of his most recent roles have been in the music videos “Paul Butcher & Taylor Hill: Blood” and “Jamie Lynn Spears & Chantel Jeffries: Follow Me”, in 2017 and 2020, respectively.

Roles in TV series

The 2000s saw Paul appear in an episode of numerous series, with some of the most notables amongst these having been the fantasy horror drama “Miracles”, the romantic comedy drama “That ‘70s Show”, and the comedy “A Minute with Stan Hooper”.

Between 2005 and 2008, Paul voiced Kenny, Robin and various other characters in the popular animated comedy drama “King of the Hill”, created by Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, and which starred Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy and Pamela Adlon. It follows the lives of a propane salesman and his family; the series aired from 1997 to 2010, and won 15 awards, including two Primetime Emmys, while it was nominated for 56 other awards.

Paul’s following notable performance was his portrayal of Jeff Pookie, in the 2013 musical comedy drama “MyMusic”, and in 2016 he starred as Brian in the drama “Destiny 7”, which was cancelled after airing 12 episodes.

Paul Butcher

Paul’s most recent TV series role has been his portrayal of Tom in three episodes of the 2021 mystery comedy drama “The Lower Bottoms”, created by Dominique Mouton, and which stars Ryan Destiny, Annie Ilonzeh and Teresa Celeste. It follows the people who are living in a West Oakland neighborhood, and are trying to find out who the arsonists are who are destroying construction sites.

Other credits

In 2004, Paul voiced Classmate 1, in the video game “The Incredibles: When Danger Calls”, and in the following year, he voiced several characters in the English version of the game “Kingdom Hearts II”, as well as in its 2007 sequel “Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+”.

He was featured in a couple of short documentary videos in 2010, such as “My Neighbor Totoro: The Totoro Experience”, My Neighbor Totoro: The Producer’s Perspective: Creating Ghibli” and “My Neighbor Totoro: Creating ‘My Neighbor Totoro’”.

Paul has made a guest appearance in a number of talk-shows, including “All That” and “Christy’s Kitchen Throwback”.

Paul has been nominated for six Young Artist Awards, winning three: the first two in 2006 and 2007 for Best Young Ensemble Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama), for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Zoey 101”, and the third in 2008, for Best Performance in a Voice-Over Role – Young Actor, for “Meet the Robinsons”.

He was also nominated for a 2014 Streamy Award for Best Ensemble Cast, for his and his colleagues’ performance in “MyMusic”.

Career as a musician

Paul launched his singing career in 2008, when he covered the song “This Love” by Maroon 5, and “Gimme That” by Chris Brown.

His debut single was released in 2010 entitled “Don’t Go”, and in 2015, Paul released his second single – “Stop Calling”.

In 2017, he released “Blood” and “Ain’t Hurtin Nobody”, and most recently, in 2019 and 2020, he released “Nothing” and “Freaky (Tus Manos)”.

Love life and girlfriend

Many of Paul’s fans believe that he’s gay, however, the popular actor has mentioned several girls whom he has dated over the years, and there are also rumors circulating the internet connecting him to several popular actresses.

Back in 2007, while he was shooting for the series “Zoey 101”, it was believed that Paul was in a relationship with the actress Jamie Lynn Spears, who starred alongside him in the series, however, these rumors weren’t confirmed – he was only 13 years old at the time! In 2010, he revealed in a tweet that he was dating a non-celebrity American girl, but shared no details concerning her.

He hasn’t spoken of any girls whom he has since been with, which is perhaps why many people query his sexuality; Paul hasn’t addressed these rumors, nor has any evidence been provided to support these.

As of September 2021, he seems to be single, hasn’t married, and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Paul is quite active on Instagram, as he seems to be enjoying the attention he’s receiving from his more than 350,000 followers. He’s uploaded over 1,000 pictures, the majority of which have been taken during his everyday life.
