Born Carlos Armando Ponce Freyre Jr. on 4 September 1972 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he’s the son of Carlos Ponce Sr. and Esther Freyre. His parents are Cuban emigrants who escaped from Cuba following the Cuban Revolution under Fidel Castro.
Raised in Humacao, he featured in school plays during his childhood years, and while at home he would also showcase his singing talents. He began appearing in TV commercials at the age of six, and in high school, he was a part of the school’s drama club.
The Ponce family moved to Miami, Florida USA in 1986, and during his days at South Miami Senior High, he continued to act in school plays and received the best student actor of the southern region of the United States honors.
He received a scholarship for the New World School after successfully competing in the Southeastern Theatre Conference, however, Univision, a Spanish-language television station, gave him his own show “Hablando”, so he gave up on his studies, and focused on his television debut.
After the show ended, Carlos moved to Mexico where he won the role of Willie in the soap opera “Guadalupe”, after a visit to the Televisa studio. His next role was as Renato in the soap opera “Sentimientos Ajenos”, appearing in all but two episodes of the highly acclaimed series, co-starring Chantal Andere, Yolanda Andrade, and Olivia Bucio.
Ponce continued his career with roles in soap operas including “Blameless Love” (2001), then “Angel de la Guarda, Mi Dulce Compania” (2003), while in 2005 he was Rodrigo in the comedy film “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo”.
