Early life and education
Ann grew up in Hartford, in a family of Cuban immigrants, with a brother and a sister. Their father, who was an acclaimed physician, died in a car crash in 1987. Ann’s sister was accused of murdering her husband in 1990, and was committed to a mental institution fifteen years later.
Ann has revealed that she was an overweight child, and that she was bullied through her teenage years. She developed an interest in creative arts early on, and wanted to work in the movie industry. She graduated university in 1983, with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Roles in TV series
Ann made her TV series debut in 2003, when she appeared in an episode of the ABC sitcom “Life with Bonnie”, centered on the life of a local TV show host.
In 2009, she appeared in an episode of the HBO comedy “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, entitled “The Black Swan”. The series is written by and stars Larry David, who plays a fictionalized version of himself. Episodes mainly revolve around daily situations in Larry’s life, frequently showcasing his ignorance or plain disregard of social norms, which gets him in awkward situations with people around him. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” has been airing on HBO since 2009, with the 11th season set to premiere in October 2021. The series has received high critical acclaim, and has been nominated for 47 Primetime Emmys.
Four years later, we saw Ann in an episode of the revival season of the cult-classic sitcom “Arrested Development”, created by Mitchell Hurwitcz, and which starred Jason Bateman, Michel Cera and Portia de Rossi.

In 2003, Ann wrote an episode of her then husband’s self-titled comedy show. In the following year, she was the executive producer on an episode of the adventure comedy drama series “The Wonderful World of Disney”.
In 2007, Ann produced George Lopez’s first HBO solo stand-up special, entitled “George Lopez: America’s Mexican”. The couple came into media spotlight in 2004, after George announced that he had a genetic condition affecting his kidneys, and that he needed an organ transplant. After George was done filming the fourth season of his comedy show, Ann donated one of her kidneys to him.
The transplant was successful, and George’s health quickly improved.
On 27 September 2010, they announced that theyd decided to end their marriage because of ‘irreconcilable differences’; the divorce was finalized on 1 July 2011, while the division of their assets took another year. George was abandoned by both of his parents before his 10th birthday, leaving his maternal grandmother to care for him. In 1979, he matriculated from San Fernando High School, and soon started performing as a stand-up comedian.
