Who is Bryce Gheisar?

Bryce is an actor perhaps best known for his roles in the movies “A Dog’s Purpose” and “Wonder”. He was born under the Zodiac sign Capricorn on 22 December 2004, in Plano, Texas, USA. As of early 2022, he’s 17 years old and holds American nationality. Bryce currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

Early life and Family

He was born to Todd and Nichole Gheisar, and raised alongside his older brother, Blake Gheisar. From a young age, he trained in competitive gymnastics, and later discovered his love for acting.

In the interview with the Pop Culturalist, Bryce revealed how he got the acting bug, disclosing: ‘I’ve always loved to perform. I used to do my school talent shows.

Then, I heard about an acting class that was near me called Cathryn Sullivan’s Acting for Film, and I begged my parents to let me go. I finally helped save money for the first class, and my parents signed me up.’

He took classes from Cathy for five years, and mastered the craft before leaving at the age of 14. Bryce was initially interested in comedies, but after extensive training, he began to see the beauty in the dramatic side of acting, revealing: ‘And that was one of the things that Cathy helped me discover, how to do the emotional state in different scenes.’

Bryce further explained that he switched from gymnastics because it was very sporty, and required at least three hours of practice every day which was very tough for him.

On the other hand, acting seemed less of a hassle and something fun. After some time, he began considering it as a career path.

Regarding his education, Bryce attended Lovejoy Elementary School in Alton, Illinois. It remains unclear which high school he enrolled at, whether he was homeschooled, and from where he matriculated.

Career

He launched his career at the age of eight, starring in the 2015 short movie “The Bus Stop”, alongside Max Cumberland. During the early days of his career, he did a couple of commercials; in 2016, he landed the role of Herman, a practical joker, in the comedy series  “Walk the Prank”. The show premiered on Disney XD channel in April 2016, and ran for three seasons, concluding in 2018.

He concurrently starred in several movies, portraying the younger version of Ethan Montgomery, the main character played by Dennis Quaid in the comedy-drama film “A Dog’s Purpose”, sharing the screen with KJ Apa and Juliet Rylance. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the adventure film was a commercial success, grossing over $200 million on a $22 million budget.

He also booked the role of Julian Albans, the bully, in the coming-of-age drama movie  “Wonder” alongside Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay, and Julia Roberts. Based on the eponymous novel by R.J. Palacio, the story follows the young boy August, diagnosed with a rare facial deformity, and his struggles as he navigates through elementary school.

After hitting the theaters, it became a huge hit, receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from the audience and the critics, who praised the casts’ performance, writing, and faithfulness to R.J.’s novel.

It scooped critical acclaim, earning over 20 nominations, including for the Academy Award in the category for Best Make-up and Hairstyling. Additionally, it smashed at the box office, grossing over $306 million against a $20 million budget.

Portraying the lead character, Thomas, Bryce next shared the screen with Delaney Wingrove, Lee Eddy and Malcon Blair in the 2017 adventure/drama film “Into the Who Knows”.

In 2018, Bryce played the younger version of Alek Skalatos in the biographical drama movie “The 15:17 to Paris”, which revolves around three courageous Americans and their story of how they prevented a terroristic attack.

Based on a true story and directed by Clint Eastwood, the film received generally negative feedback from the critics, faulting the screenplay and unengaging story before the climax, despite which, it grossed $57 million against a $30 million budget. Regarding Bryce’s experience working on this project, he disclosed:’ It was surreal being on set [with Clint Eastwood]. He is kind of like a guy who sits and instead of calling action says, ‘Go ahead.’ He’s very quiet, and [wants it] calm on set.’

Latest roles and Upcoming Projects

More recently, in 2019, he appeared in an episode of the procedural TV series “9-1-1”, then in 2020, he landed the recurring role of Elliot Combes in the Nickelodeon series “The Astronauts”, alongside Miya Cech and Keith L. Williams.

The show premiered in November, and concluded in January 2021 – it remains unclear whether there will be another season of the show, as the network hasn’t renewed or canceled it.

In 2021, he played Luke McCroy in another Nickelodeon project, the horror anthology series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, and most recently, in 2022, Bryce is set to appear in the drama film “James the Second”, and war drama movie “White Bird: A Wonder Story”.

Personal Life

Nothing is known about his romantic interests. He hasn’t been linked to anyone, and so it’s believed that he’s (still) currently single.

Physical stats and Hobbies

Bryce is currently 5ft 8ins tall (173cm), while his weight is around 145lbs (65kgs). His hair is black, and his eyes are brown.

His favorite book is “October Sky” by Homer Hickman Jr., while his favorite musical is “Hamilton”. Interestingly, he’s a fan of rock music, and listens to “The Wrecks”.

Talking to a media outlet, he revealed the most special moment in his career, disclosing: ‘Working with Mandy Patinkin was a highlight. Seeing how he took the soul of the writing on the page and fabricated something entirely new was truly amazing. Being on set and seeing others be creative and seeing their process, helps you mould your own.’

His advice for the aspiring actors, musicians and writers is: ‘You have to love it because there is a lot of rejection. I do 100s of auditions and don’t hear back on almost all of them. You really have to focus, and if you don’t, it’s very hard – don’t take things personally. Just keep at it.’

Bryce is an animal lover, and in 2018, he supported “Project Chimps”, the organization that provides care to former researcher chimpanzees.

What is his net worth?

As of 2022, his estimated net worth is around $1 million, which he’s earned through his career as an actor.

Is he active on social media?

His Instagram account has nearly 350,000 followers, while his Twitter has over 7,000 followers.
