She lived a peaceful life with her husband and children and had no idea that the love of her life secretly killed people. After over three decades of marriage, she found out that he was a serial killer who had killed more than ten people before he was arrested in 2005. She immediately filed for an emergency divorce, which the authorities granted her the same day. Dennis Lynn Rader was born on 9 March 1945 under the zodiac sign of Pisces, in Kansas, USA. Heโ€™s better known as BTK, a nickname he gave himself that stands for โ€˜bind, torture, killโ€™, the BTK Killer or the BTK Strangler. He was raised in Wichita with his three brothers named Jeff, Bill and Paul by their father William Elvin and mother Dorothea Mae Cook Rader; both parents worked long hours, and apparently didnโ€™t pay much attention to their children; later in his life, Dennis revealed that he felt ignored by his mother in particular.

From a young age, he had sadistic sexual fantasies about torturing women, and exhibited zoosadism by torturing and killing small animals. He would also wear womenโ€™s clothes, however, he kept all of these activities well hidden.

Educational Background and Career

Upon matriculation, Dennis enrolled into Kansas Wesleyan University, but dropped out after a year, and then served in the US Air Force for four years from 1966 to 1970. After discharge, he relocated to Park City, where he landed a job in the meat department of a Leekers IGA supermarket.

In 1973, he obtained an associate degree in Electronics from Butler County Community College in El Dorado, after which he graduated with a BS degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University in 1979. Thereafter, Dennis worked at Coleman Company Inc and then for ADT Security Services to 1988, where he was in charge of installing security alarm systems in Wichita; he also served as a census field operations supervisor for the Wichita area in 1989. Two years later, he started working as a dogcatcher and compliance officer, but conversely was also an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, as an elected president of the council, and was a Cub Scout leader too.

Terrible Murders

Dennis Rader killed ten people in Wichita and Park City from 1974 to 1991, and sent letters to police and newspapers in which he described the details of his crimes. His first victims were four members of the Otero family, parents Joseph and Julie, and their two children Joseph Jr. and Josephine, murdered in 1974 and their bodies were discovered by their three other children who were at school at the time of the killings. He then wrote a letter about it, hidden in an engineering book in the Wichita Public Library.

During the same year, he murdered a woman named Kathryn Bright, followed by the murders of two more women, Shirley Vian Relford and Nancy Fox, both in 1977, and sent a letter to the Wichita-based TV station KAKE demanding media attention.

Dennis didnโ€™t kill until 1985, this time Marine Hedge, and taking her body to church where he photographed it in different positions. The following year he killed another woman named Vicki Lynn Wegerle, and his final victim was Dolores E. Davis in 1991. Afterwards, he took a decade-long hiatus before he started sending letters again in 2004, which led to his arrest in 2005. He pleaded guilty to all the murders and was sentenced to ten consecutive life sentences.
