Who is Italia Ricci?

Canadian-American actress of Italian descent Stephanie Italia Ricci, was born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, on 29 October 1986, making Scorpio her zodiac sign. She’s appeared in 26 movies and TV series, and is probably known best for portraying Emily Rhodes, one of the main characters in the action mystery series “Designated Survivor”, which David Guggenheim created, and which also starred Adan Canto and Kiefer Sutherland. It follows a Cabinet member who’s become a US President only because all those above him have been killed in a terrorist attack; the series aired from 2016 through 2019, and won three of its six award nominations.

Education and early life

Italia was raised alongside her brothers Vince and Mike in Richmond Hill, by their Italian parents Terry and Angelo about whom Italia hasn’t spoken in public, because she respects their privacy; it’s believed that her father’s a plumber, and her mother an elementary school teacher.

Although she fell in love with acting while attending a local high school, Italia still remained focused on her education, wanting to honor her parents’ wishes; she was physically highly active as a teenager, as she was on her school’s cheerleading team, played soccer and did gymnastics.

Italia matriculated in 2005, and then enrolled at Queen’s University at Kingston (Ontario), from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2009.

Italia’s debut film role was playing Laura Johnson in the popular 2007 comedy “American Pie Presents: Beta House”, directed by Andrew Waller, and which starred John White, Christopher McDonald and Jake Siegel. In 2019, she starred as Amelia Tate in the romantic drama “Rome in Love”, directed by Eric Bross, and which also starred Peter Porte and Ross McCall; it follows a girl who’s come to Rome to star in a play, and has fallen in love with a journalist.

Italia’s two most recent film roles have been in the 2020 romantic drama “Love in Winterland”, and the 2021 romantic comedy “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”.

Italia’s debut TV series role was playing Chase Ravenwood in five episodes of the 2009 action family adventure “Aaron Stone”, and the same year saw her appear in an episode of the romantic comedy “How I Met Your Mother”, the mystery “House”, and the family comedy “Greek”.

In 2010, she played Maggie Winnock, one of the main characters in the action adventure “Unnatural History”, created by Mike Werb, and which also starred Kevin G. Schmidt and Jordan Gavaris. It follows a young man who’s moved in with his uncle in Washington DC; the series was nominated for only a single award.

In 2012, Italia made a guest appearance in the episode “Pick and Roll” of the crime mystery “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, and in 2014 and 2015 starred as April Carver in all the 34 episodes of the romantic family drama “Chasing Life”, created by Susana Fogel and Marco Lagarde, and which also starred Mary Page Keller and Richard Brancatisano. It follows April Carver who’s just been diagnosed with leukemia, and the series was nominated for five awards.

Italia’s since appeared in only three TV series, including “Designated Survivor”. She played Taryn Wilkie in the 2021 episode “Waiting” of the drama “The Good Doctor”, and the year 2022 saw her star as Dr. Sydney Burke in the action adventure “The Imperfects”, which also starred Morgan Taylor Campbell and Rhianna Jagpal, and follows three mutants who are in their 20s, and are hunting down the scientist responsible for their appearance.

Italia received special thanks for the 2013 adventure science fiction movie “The Hunters”.

She sang the song “Fugue II in C-minor, BWV 847” in the 2017 episode “The End of the Beginning” of the series “Designated Survivor”.

The two met back in July 2008, became engaged on 19 August 2014 and exchanged vows on 15 October 2016, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members; in September 2019, Italia gave birth to their son Robert Amell V.

In January 2020, both Italia and her husband became American citizens.

Italia hasn’t mentioned the men whom she’d dated prior to meeting Robert, she’s married to Robert Patrick ‘Robbie’ Amell IV as of March 2023, and they have a son together.
