Johnny Simmons Wiki Bio

Johnny Simmons was born in Montgomery, Alabama USA, on 28 November 1986 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor, perhaps known best for his roles in movies, such as “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”.

Early life and education

Johnny was born to Cindy and Ben Simmons. The family moved to Dallas, Texas when Johnny was five years old, and he spent most of his formative years there.

He received his primary education at the Nathan Adams Elementary School, then in T. C. Marsh Middle School. In 2005, he matriculated from W. T. White High School, but didn’t enroll at a college right away, as he wanted to focus on his acting career.

Roles in movies

Shortly after finishing high school, Johnny moved to Los Angeles, California, looking for more acting opportunities. He landed a role in the short movie “My Ambition” – when casting calls came out, he noticed that there was a mistake in the print, namely, the audition was calling for a female lead to play Julie Walters.

Johnny then contacted the production office, hoping that they would have a male part as well, and was asked to audition for the lead. He was cast on the spot, and got his first manager.

Johnny’s next movie role was in the 2007 comedy “Evan Almighty”, the sequel to “Bruce Almighty”. In the movie, he played the role of Steve Carell’s character’s son, Dylan, Johnny’s first time having such a prominent role in a Hollywood film, and many consider this role to be his breakthrough.

In the following year, he had a supporting role in the action crime fantasy “The Spirit”, written and directed by Frank Miller, and which starred Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.

In 2009, Johnny played one of the leads in the children’s comedy “Hotel for Dogs”, centered on two kids who take in stray dogs at an abandoned hotel. In the same year, he starred alongside Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody, in the comedy horror “Jennifer’s Body”.

One of the most notable movie roles for Johnny, was in the 2010 romantic action comedy “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”, based on the eponymous comic book series, and which also starred Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anna Kendrick. The film follows a young musician who is desperately trying to win a band competition so that he can land a record deal, while battling ‘the seven evil exes’ of his new girlfriend, Ramona Flowers.

Although the film failed to compensate for its $85 million budget at the box office, it received overwhelmingly positive reviews from the critics, while eventually gaining a cult following. It has made several year-end top-ten lists, and has received more than 70 awards and nominations, including the 2011 Saturn Award nomination in the Best Fantasy Film category.

Two years later, Johnny appeared in the popular buddy cop action comedy “21 Jump Street”, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and which starred Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube. The movie is an adaptation of the 1988-91 TV series of the same name, centering on a pair of police officers who are tasked with infiltrating a high school, so that they can prevent the outbreak of a new synthetic drug. The film was one of the most commercially successful comedies of the 2010s, and was also listed as the sixth most illegally downloaded film of 2012.

In the same year, Johnny played the role of Brad, a secretly gay football player, in the award-winning coming-of-age comedy “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, which starred Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller. In the following years, we saw Johnny star in a number of other critically-acclaimed movies, including “The Stanford Prison Experiment”, “Dreamland” and “The Late Bloomer”.

Roles in TV series

Johnny made his TV series debut in 2006, when he appeared in an episode of the mystery crime drama “Numb3rs”, centered on a mathematician working for the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), but didn’t make his next TV series appearance until six years later, in an episode of the CBS crime drama “Elementary”.

In 2014, Johnny played the role of the author Jack London, in the historical drama mini-series “Klondike”, directed by Simon Cellan Jones based on Chalotte Gray’s novel “gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike”.

The series follows the events which took place during the 1890’s gold rush in Yukon, Canada, centering on adventurers Bill Haskell, played by the “Game of Thrones” star, Richard Madden, and Belinda Mulrooney, played by Abbie Cornish.

Three years later, we saw Johnny star in the Netflix comedy series “Girlboss”, created by Kay Cannon, and which also starred Britt Robertson and Ellie Reed. It follows the real-life story of Sophia Amoruso, the founder of the widely successful online clothing retailer, Nasty Gal, but the series was cancelled after only one season, due to relatively low ratings.

Johnny hasn’t appeared in any TV or film roles since then.

Where is he now?

Johnny’s disappearance from the acting scene in 2017 left many of his fans wondering if he would take on any more roles.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as some sources reveal that he’s become tired of acting, and is looking into pursuing a completely new career. It’s rumored that he’s currently studying biochemistry at university, but Johnny is yet to publicly talk about his future plans.

Love life and girlfriend

When people talk about Johnny’s dating history, the first name which comes to mind is the “Harry Potter” star, Emma Watson. The two started dating back in 2011, during the filming of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, which they both starred in. They were spotted spending time together on various occasions, and it was even reported that Emma had asked Johnny to move to England with her. However, the couple broke up a few months later, as Johnny couldn’t fly to UK, and the long-distance relationship proved to be too difficult to maintain.

Two years prior, Johnny was apparently in a short-lived relationship with his “Jennifer’s Body” co-star, Leonie Kranzle.

Nowadays, Johnny has been keeping a low profile, thus not a lot is known about his relationship status. In the early 2022, some rumors have appeared online, claiming that the actor is secretly gay, but Johnny is yet to comment on them.

Johnny currently appears to be single, hasn’t been married or engaged and doesn’t have children.

Age, height and net worth

Johnny is 35 years old. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, is 5ft 10ins (1.78m) tall, and weighs around 170lbs (77kgs).

As of January 2022, his net worth has been estimated at more than $1 million.
