Career

He was inspired to become a filmmaker after seeing the movie “Slacker”, written, directed and produced by Richard Linklater, who also appeared in the film. Kevin wanted to do the same, and shot his films in his hometown, taking notes from films of such independent filmmakers as Spike Lee, Jim Jarmusch and Hal Hartley among others. He was working at a convenience store in Leonardo, where he created his first film “Clerks”, raising $27,575 for his first film and casting his friends and colleagues in most roles in order to make the film happen.

“Clerks” premiered in 1994 at the Sundance Film Festival, starring Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson and Marilyn Ghigliotti, and became a total success, winning numerous awards and also garnering over $3 million at the box office.
