American actor, film producer and social media star Michael Rainey Jr., was born in Louisville, Kentucky USA, on 22 September 2000, meaning that Virgo is his zodiac sign. He’s so far appeared in 12 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for starring as Tariq St. Patrick in the crime series “Power Book II: Ghost”, created by Courtney A. Kemp, and which also stars Shane Johnson and Gianni Paolo. It follows the lives of several characters from the critically acclaimed series “Power”, the spin-off has been airing since 2020, and has won eight of its 12 award nominations.

Education and early life

Michael was raised in Louisville by his mother Shaun Small and father Michael Rainey Sr, however, he hasn’t shared many details about his parents, as they prefer to be left out of media; Michael’s believed not to have siblings, as he hasn’t spoken about any.

He was only seven when he fell in love with acting, after having appeared in a play performed at his elementary school, and Michael was nine when he launched his career and made his debut film appearance, playing one of the main characters, Charlie in the 2010 drama “Un Altro Mondo”, written and directed by Silvia Muccino, who also starred in it, alongside Michael and Isabella Ragonese. The movie follows a young man who’s from a wealthy family, and has now learned that his estranged father’s dying; the film won one of its four award nominations.

Michael’s since been active in the film industry, but was also into a number of activities while attending a local high school; he played basketball for the school’s team, and upon matriculating in 2019, honed his skills at an acting school, but hasn’t pursued a college degree.

Michael played the main character Woody in the 2012 crime drama “LUV”, written and directed by Sheldon Candis, and which also starred Common and Dennis Haysbert; it follows an 11 years old boy as he’s spending time with his former convict uncle, and the movie won one of its five award nominations.

The following year saw Michael play Cecil Gaines in the critically acclaimed biographical drama “The Butler”, directed by Lee Daniels, and which starred Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey and John Cusack. It follows the life of Cecil Gaines, who served eight US presidents as a butler in the White House, and the movie won 16 of its 73 award nominations. Some of Michael’s following roles were in the 2014 family drama “Second Chance Christmas”, the 2016 comedy “Barbershop: The Next Cut”, and the 2018 sports drama “Amateur”.

In 2018, Michael played Kenny Rastell in the action thriller “211”, written and directed by York Alec Shackleton, and which starred Nicolas Cage and Sophie Skelton; it follows an aging police officer and his partner as they’re facing a group of former mercenaries who are trying to rob a bank. The movie received mostly negative reviews.

Michael’s appeared in only four TV series, including “Power Book II: Ghost”.

His debut TV series role was playing Michael Burset in seven episodes (2013-2015) of the hit crime comedy “Orange Is the New Black”, which starred Taryn Manning, Danielle Brooks and Taylor Schilling, and was created by Jenji Kohan. It follows law-abiding citizen Pipe Chapman who’s been sentenced to spend 18 months behind bars, the series aired from 2013 through 2019 and won 57 of its 207 award nominations.

From 2014 through 2020, Michael played Tariq St. Patrick in the previously mentioned critically acclaimed crime drama “Power”, which Courtney A. Kamp created, and which starred Naturi Naughton, Lela Loren and Omari Hardwick; it follows the life of a wealthy night club owner who’s also a drug dealer, and the series won 14 of its 40 award nominations.

Michael’s only other role has been starring in both episodes of the 2022 podcast “The Crew Has It”, alongside Gianni Paolo and Alix Lapri.
