Willow Shields was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico USA. on 1 June 2000 – her zodiac sign is Gemini, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress and a singer, who has appeared in close to 20 movies and TV Series, while she’s probably known best for her portrayal of Primrose Everdeen in the critically acclaimed 2012 action adventure science fiction movie “The Hunger Games”. It was written and directed by Gary Ross, starred Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, and follows 24 teenagers, two from each of the 12 Districts of Panem, who are competing in a game which has them fighting to the death. The movie won 33 of the 81 awards for which it was nominated.

Willow reprised her role in the sequels “Catching Fire” in 2013, “Mockingjay – Part 1” in 2014, and “Mockingjay – Part 2” in 2015.

Early life and education

Willow was raised in Albuquerque alongside her twin sister Autumn and their older brother River, by their parents Rob and Carrie Shields; not a lot is known about Willow’s family, as she respects their privacy, but it’s known that her brother and sister have also launched their careers in the film industry.

Willow became interested in acting at a very early age, and seeing this, her parents took her to various auditions. She was eight years old when she launched her career, with her voicing of Girl Watching Gun Fight in the 2008 short western film “Las Vegas New Mexico 1875”, and Willow has been acting since then.

She attended a local high school in Albuquerque, and was into several sports during her four years there, including soccer and tennis. Upon matriculating in 2018, Willow didn’t enroll at college, but chose to focus on working on her way up in the film industry.

Willow has appeared in only four TV series. She made her debut appearance in the 2009 episode “In My Humboldt Opinion” of the mystery crime drama “In Plain Sight”, and in 2012, she played Eve in the episode “The Intruders” of the action adventure drama “R. L. Stine’s the Haunting Hour”.

In 2019, Willow was cast to play the lead character Maya in the crime fantasy horror “The Unsettling”, created by Andrew Jacobson and Adam Jay Epstein, and which also starred Tequan Richmond and Holly Taylor.

In 2011, Willow portrayed Grace in the popular family drama “Beyond the Blackboard”, directed by Jeff Bleckner, and which starred Emily VanCamp, Steve Talley and Timothy Busfield. It follows a 24 years old teacher who is teaching homeless children at their shelter’s improvised classroom, and the movie won one of the six awards for which it was nominated.

In 2017, she played the main character Rachel, in the action family adventure “Into the Rainbow”, directed by Gary Wing-Lun Mak and Norman Stone, and which also starred Maria Grazia Cucinnotta and Archie Kao. The movie follows three children who hold the key to saving the world.

Willow’s only other film role has been her portrayal of the lead character Lorian, in the 2018 drama “Woodstock or Bust”; it was written and directed by Leslie Boom, also starred Meg DeLacy and Teddy Van Ee, and follows two teenagers who are travelling to perform at the Woodstock Music Festival. The movie won eight of the 11 awards for which it was nominated.

She’s currently shooting for two upcoming movies: the drama “When Time Got Louder” and the thriller “A Fall from Grace”.

Other credits

Willow worked as a stand-in for Mia Stallard during the shooting for the 2010 thriller movie “Inhale”.

She sang the song “Deep in the Meadow (Lullaby)” in the 2012 film “The Hunger Games”.

Willow received special thanks for the 2015 documentary video “The Mockingjay Lives: The Making of the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1”.
